How to Find Ease in Sitting Posture?
The best way to improve your posture is by feeling it. Do small, slow and soft movements as if exploring better options, and pay attention to how the movements feel. The secret is in the quality of the process: In other words, by paying more attention to how your body prefers to move helps you to find easier sitting posture.
3 Steps to Release Tension While Sitting
Step #1: Focus on Comfort
Whenever possible, try moving very softly and very slowly within your comfort zone. For example, while sitting, feel how it is to move a little. Moving gently makes it easier to focus on what is good for you right now. By doing gentle movements you awaken your sensory system allowing it to help you to discover new positions where muscles can release tension. As a result your body uses less energy, allowing you to stay fresh and sharp.
Step #2: Find Your Way
Finding comfortable ways to sit and move can easily be achieved through self-education. As a movement educator, I prefer that you learn how to discover something rather than me telling how to sit. This way you can enjoy a greater feeling of freedom, which yields better results. I´d rather ask, "How would you move your weight a little to your right? Would you rather breathe in or out? What feels the best for you?" Try this and feel what is better. True learning comes from within!
Step #3: Notice the Way You Breathe
Breathing creates movements that continuously affect your posture. In a way, this is like a tool that can help you to release tension and find the perfect healthy and comfortable posture. Simply pay attention to the way air flows in and out, and feel the movements around your belly and chest. When you exhale, feel how your body relaxes and when you inhale, how the incoming air not only expands your upper body, but also shows a direction toward the most balanced position, somewhere between forced upright and slouching posture.
As an extra tip: When you spend a moment to improve your sitting comfort the way I show here, close your eyes and relax your face. How does this make you feel?
